This painting began with vertical stripes of blues, mauves, grays, and golds, which blended when sprayed. I dropped golds and darks on. It wasn't exciting until I turned it sideways. Youw the horizontal became beautiful, I suppose peaceful, like the horizon. Maybe that's why my art is healing, it's peaceful.

The cosmos began to appear, stars floating. I cut out some stars from my painted canvas scraps. That's nice, I thought. But there wasn't enough going on. Then I found a bird I'd painted which looked pretty dull and unconnected until I repainted it. Ah, it belonged there. I love to put birds in my art. Then it needed something more. I cut out suns, planets, the cosmos is a favorite subject. Finally the gold one fit. Back to the bird. After trying her in several spots, the higher the position, the more right it seemed. There's a spot where things work. Toward the top the bird was stronger, optimistic, positive.
