“Healing in Art”

On Jan. 17 I addressed the Lioness Women of Manitowish Waters, WI on the healing power of art. I have found that intuitively making art has an energizing, inspiring effect bringing improved health and emotional strength.

Beginning Thursday, April 12, at my house/studio I will be teaching weekly art sessions, another “Art Without Thinking” method connecting directly to the intuitive. Coming to my house/studio is especially instructive and fun because I have a house full of art, art books and I will be painting for you to observe.  Email me at jeaninesemon@gmail.com  $30 a session.

On May 26th I will teach a workshop at the Minocqua Public Library entitled “The Power of Art Without Thinking.” Art fears disappear in my classes.

Portage Art Center

On Jan. 14th, a Saturday night, the Portage WI Art Center honored its visual artists who have shown at the center with an evening of Gilbert and Sullivan music, sponsored by Eleanor Drury, a major supporter of the art center. I have had two one-person shows in Portage, where I grew up and graduated high school. I never dreamed I would be part of such an event, since I didn’t get to my art direction until I was a young adult. Is this what happens when you’re in your 80’s?

Elkhart Return

I’ve just returned from my show in Elkhart, IN.  My friends Laurel Forsythe and Rod Liechty, who arranged everything with their love of art, drove me by the beauty and football power of Notre Dame and took me to dinner at a Thai restaurant, followed by a preview of my art exhibit.  It was a “win-win” situation.  Laurel’s family and the Unitarian family all had fun and are as uplifted and grateful as I am.

A touch of luck brought two special visitors to the exhibit:  Martha Suggs Spencer and her husband, Willis Spencer, who have built their own museum in Vandalia, Michigan.  Both from slave backgrounds, the Suggs’ Underground Railroad Museum honors Martha’s father, James Suggs.

Excitement in Indiana!

My “Creation” Series is being featured in an exhibit in a Unitarian Church in Elkhart, Indiana, by my good friend for many years, Laurel Forsythe.

MOTHER LOVE AND ARTIST VERSATILITY

The exhibit, organized around themes of nature and mother’s feelings, goes beyond traditional ideas, appealing to universal human needs and joy. Six paintings plus a single grouped framing of sixteen phases of Creation will be shown. There will be oil painting, colored drawings, photographic prints, and acrylic paintings on canvas.
